How to Identify Your Content Pillars and Niche As A Multi-Passionate

Identifying Your Content Pillars and Niche as a Multi-Passionate
Embracing your multiple interests starts with introspection. Prioritize your passions by asking:

  • Which passion am I most excited about sharing?
  • Which passion holds promising potential for monetization?

These questions dive deep into identifying your brand’s pillars from an authentic space of enthusiasm and expertise.

But don’t choose just any of your interests to be your pillars.

Quality Checking Your Niche and Content Pillars:

Ensure your chosen pillars stand the test of relevance and demand by asking:

Ask yourself these simple questions to confirm if you’ve chosen a good niche and content pillars:

  • Do these interests deeply motivate me?
  • Do I possess the knowledge and drive to create around these topics?
  • Is there an audience / do other people share my passions on these topics?
  • Do other brands sell products related to these topics / Is there a market for them?

A careful selection of your content pillars, based on these criteria, ensures your content pillars and niche are solid and promising.

Tips for establishing your content and product pillars:

  • Deep Self-Reflection: Identify passions that not only excite you but also have the potential to attract an audience.
  • Define Clear Pillars: Aim for 3-5 content pillars that you can share passionately and profit from.
  • Avoid spreading yourself too thin across too many interests: Concentrating on too many interests can weaken your impact because it can dilute your overall messaging (and this can affect profitability)
  • Embrace your zone(s) of genius as your main content pillars, while expressing your unique personality as the delightful subplots to your content

After pinpointing multiple topics for content pillars that are clearly your unique zone(s) of genius and expertise, it’s time to reflect on the lifestyle and experiences these topics of interest have enabled for you.

Mixing “What You Know” with “Who You Are”

Your content pillars (what you know) form the core narrative of your brand, content pillars and business story, while your lifestyle, other passions, experiences, and personality (who you are) add engaging layers and dimensions. Sharing the tangible results and joys your passions have brought into your life personalizes your journey, making your brand relatable and aspirational to your audience.

Imagine you’re crafting a captivating story, where your main storyline—your content pillars and niche—are the heart of the narrative, the enthralling journey that draws readers in. These are the areas you’re passionate about, the expertise you want to share with the world. Maybe it’s sustainable living, mindful wellness, or cutting-edge technology. This is where you get to showcase what you know best and what you believe can make a difference.

Now, think of your unique lifestyle, experiences, and personality as the colorful subplots and unexpected twists that keep the story fresh and vibrant. These are the personal anecdotes, your humor, your reflections and your results —essentially, the “you” infused within the content. While your expertise builds the framework of your story, your lifestyle, personal results and personality breathes life into it, creating a journey that’s not only informative but also irresistibly engaging and aspirational for your audience.

Incorporate Your Personal Touch:

Reflect on and share the personal successes and lifestyle benefits your passions have afforded you. This not only demonstrates the value of your approach but also invites your audience into a more personal space, allowing for a deeper connection.

Can you describe the results you have experienced and achieved from having a passion and expertise for the topics you chose?

Here’s my own example: the results I’ve achieved from my multiple passions is having the time and funds for traveling adventures with my family, flexibility and time freedom, building a home office in my backyard, buying our new home, and all the little leisure’s and small joys that fill my day from enjoying simple iced lattes, long talks and drives to nowhere with my husband, cozy gaming in the middle of a Tuesday with my Nintendo Switch, buying all the Cute Planners, Stickers, and Stationary, cozying up to watch a Harry Potter movie for the 90th time while I write a few emails to my subscribers, or collecting vintage cameras and art to help me perfect my home office and dreamy desk setup.

These aspects of my life are direct results of my multiple passions and business, and showcase my personality and other interests. My multiple passions have led to a profitable business (the main story and result), and that has helped me achieve these many little lifestyle things that my audience can relate to. (the subplots and rewards from my passions)

What are those things for you?

As you figure out your content, it’ll become important to sprinkle elements of your unique self throughout. It’s this blend of valuable knowledge and personal touch that will make your content stand out and resonate deeply with your audience. This will add uniqueness that no one else can replicate.

It’s time to start blending in your personal story and all the little rewards your multiple passions have brought you.

7 Ways to Blend Your Multiple Passions into Your Business and Content

1) Showcase Your Unique Experiences:

Your unique skills and passions have likely allowed you to live differently. Share these moments with your audience. Maybe there’s a sense of freedom or exploration that comes with your lifestyle, or perhaps you have exciting hobbies or interests that highlight your individuality. Drop elements of these experiences into your content, while always weaving them back into your main subject matter and the core message behind your business.

Example: If you’re passionate about technology and outdoor adventures, you could write a blog post on the latest portable tech gadgets and describe how perfect they could be for a hiking enthusiast like you. Include personal reviews or anecdotes.

2) Incorporate Your Values into Your Content:

Your values and beliefs are a significant part of who you are. By integrating these into your content pillars, you not only strengthen your brand’s identity but also attract an audience that shares or respects these values. This alignment creates a stronger community around your content.

Example: Suppose you’re an etsy shop owner but one of your core passions is sustainability. In that case, you could always feature an eco-friendly tip or practice you’ve adopted within your business emails as a PS

3) Use Your Voice to Stand Out:

The way you express yourself—your tone, your choice of words, even your humor—is unique to you. Don’t shy away from using your natural voice in your content. A distinctive voice will make your content more memorable and help it stand out in a crowded space.

Example: Imagine you love witty writing and also have a deep interest in personal finance. Use your humor to break down complex financial topics in a way that’s both accessible and enjoyable, making dry subjects more palatable.

4) Engage with Your Audience as You Would with Friends:

Your personality and passions shine brightest through authentic interactions. Engage with your audience’s comments, emails, and social media as though you’re conversing with friends. This approachable demeanor encourages more engagement and builds a loyal community.

Example: If you’re into fitness and also savor a good fantasy novel, create a community event such as a “Book & Burpees” challenge, combining discussions on favorite books with daily workout goals, and engage with participants on social media.

5) Share Your Learning Journey:

No one starts as an expert. Share stories about your journey, the obstacles you’ve faced, and what you’ve learned along the way. This transparency not only adds a personal touch but also makes your content more relatable and inspiring to those who may be a few steps behind you on a similar path.

Example: Let’s say you’ve really grown as a cook and a professional photographer. Share before-and-after photos showing your first food related photoshoot compared to a professional one today, detailing the learning curve and encouraging others on their journey.

6) Visuals That Reflect Your Personal Brand:

Use visuals—whether they’re photos, graphics, or videos—that resonate with your personality and brand. Visual elements are powerful storytelling tools and can make your content feel more personal and engaging.

Example: Incorporate visual elements you’re passionate about, like minimalist design or vibrant colors, into your content platforms. If you’re into DIY and graphic design, design your own catchy graphics for blog headers or social media posts. Embrace your own style and make it your brand.

7) Keep It Relevant:

While it’s great to show your personality, remember that not every aspect of your personal life needs to be shared with your audience. Aim to only include personal elements that add depth to your content pillars, enhancing the overall narrative rather than distracting from it. Your personal anecdotes should serve to humanize and enrich your primary content, not dilute your main message.

It’s not about making content that is jumping from one interest to another but rather staying on topic of your main pillars, but also showing how they are connected in your life through your lifestyle, experiences and personality.

As a multi-passionate entrepreneur, your varied interests aren’t just compelling; they are what sets your brand apart from all the others. By defining content pillars, creating a connection between them and what is authentically you, you will captivate and inspire your audience even more!
