There are 4 clever ways to make more money from your business without having to work any more hours, and I’ve found these methods to be incredibly effective.

Here are the 4 simple steps you can follow to increase your revenue.

  1. Add an Upsell to Your Offers
  2. Add a Cross Sell to Your Offers
  3. Add a Downsell to Your Offers
  4. Combine these into one powerful automated funnel (keep reading for these instructions)

First, let’s understand what these 4 steps to increased revenue are:

Cross-selling, upselling, and downselling are very much similar strategies, but there are key things that make each one different.

Each one has its own unique approach and for that reason, it makes it even easier to combine them together into one powerful automated funnel.

Cross-selling

This simply means you are showing a new offer for another product as an extra item someone can add to their cart after purchasing your first offer. Simply put, it’s a way to get the customer to buy more while they’re already in the checkout process. Ideally, this is something that compliments and is related to the original offer. I’ll be sharing a few examples a little further down this blog post.

Up-selling:

This is when you offer a better, more expensive version of the thing your customer is buying at the check out process. For example, I might offer someone checking out for the quarterly level an upgraded level to annual for the content membership

This encourages the customer to spend a little more than they initially intended because they are given the opportunity to upgrade their product. It’s a win-win situation for both the customer and the business, as the customer gets a better upgraded product and you make a little more profits in the process.

Side note: Between the two, Cross-selling and Upselling, I’ve personally found cross-selling is a little easier to do because not every offer has (or is intended for) an upgrade.

Down-selling:

A downsell is what you may offer if a customer says no to your first (or second) offer at a lower price. It offers you an opportunity to still try to sell them something a little less expensive and with less bells and whistles as the first offer(s).

You’d be surprised at how often someone isn’t buying your main offer because of something else besides the price. Sometimes it comes down to the amount of things (features) you’ve included in your offer that they just don’t need. For example, someone might want to join my content membership for the canva templates, but they don’t need or want stock photos. So, instead of letting them walk away, I might consider a downsell where I offer a subscription or a bundle to just my Canva templates.

In this case, if a customer purchases the downsell, you’ve met their need and made some profit without them walking away and not selling them anything to help solve their problem at all.

So, how can you combine these into one powerful funnel?

Creating a powerful funnel that combines these into one is a great way to increase your sales without any extra work. You just set up the process once, and then it does its thing on its own.

Your only job is to direct people towards your main product offer (which you were already doing in the first place) and this one powerful funnel takes care of the rest.

These examples below will explain and show you exactly how that could work in your business.

4 Examples That Combine Upsells, Cross-sells, and Downsells into One Powerful Funnel

1. Private offer Funnel

Create a cross-sell offer that’s only available within the main product checkout process.

  • Step 1. They buy the Main Product: Advanced YouTube Marketing Course, designed to help content creators master their video marketing, priced at $350.
  • Step 2. After Purchase, You Display a Private Offer Cross-Sell: A private offer to gain access to a vault of 500 exclusive stock videos for only $150 more (but only when you enroll in the main course – offer not sold anywhere else)
  • Step 3. They clicked “No Thanks” and are sent to a Downsell Option: If the customer says no to the Cross-sell, you offer the ‘Essential Cuts’ Video Pack, which includes highlights from the stock video library, for half the price of the previous offer – $75.

2. Limited Qty Offer Funnel

Offer something that’s better than the main product but make it limited.

  • Step 1. They buy the Main Product: Your course “Website from Scratch” – a beginner-to-advanced guide for aspiring website developers, priced at $200.
  • Step 2. You display a Limited Cross-Sell: Offer an exclusive 6-week accelerated learning program, with live coaching sessions and 1-on-1 mentorship, limited to 20 spots, for an additional $300.
  • Step 3. They clicked “No Thanks” and are sent to a Downsell Option: Access to four pre-recorded workshops for more hands-on learning at a downsell price of $100.

3. Bundle Offer

Bundle several products together and offer them at a deal.

  • Step 1. They buy your Main Product: “The Entrepreneur’s Finance Guide” eBook, providing insights on managing finances , priced at $40.
  • Step 2. You display a Bundle Cross-Sell: The Entrepreneur’s Ultimate eBook Collection, which includes more books on Marketing and more, a total of 6 eBooks, available for a bundled offer of $97.
  • Step 3. They clicked “No Thanks” and are sent to a Downsell Option: Choose any 2 eBooks from the Ultimate Collection for $40

4. Discounted Upgrade Funnel

Offer the cross-sell at a discounted price.

  • Step 1. They buy your Main Product: Monthly Subscription to the ‘Digital Marketer’s Insider’ – a treasure trove of latest marketing strategies and trends, priced at $30/month.
  • Step 2. You display an Upgrade/Upsell opportunity: Switch to an Annual Subscription for $300/year, offering a saving plus access to exclusive quarterly workshops and a comprehensive digital marketing toolkit.
  • Step 3. They clicked “No Thanks” and are sent to a Downsell: Gain access to the Digital Marketing Toolkit alone, featuring templates, tools, and checklists, available at $50.

You can see how one super funnel and all of these strategies can help you make more money from your business without any extra work. You set it up once and it does that work for you.

how to make more money with a personalized funnel

How do you set up one powerful funnel – technically?

The best way to implement this process is with a funnel software connected to your checkout.

Some website platforms have them built in to the checkout process. If yours doesn’t, there are quite a few standalone tools you can choose from that might integrate with the tools you do use. I have a WordPress website and use WooCommerce, so the tool/plugin I choose and like for my business and funnels is called FunnelKit.

Some of our membership community and coaching students have found tools like Systeme.io extremely helpful and affordable.

In fact, I’ve found Systeme so impressive and helpful for beginners that I started teaching this exact process in my launch accelerator program using and building funnel templates for them using Systeme.io. Now, members can copy and paste the funnel templates I made for them from right inside the content membership.

The coolest part about Systeme is they offer a free account for one funnel! So, it’s free to build your funnel (An actual working funnel). When I learned about that for the first time, I was impressed with that generosity and really wished it was around when I started my business! If you’re checking out funnel platforms, it’s definitely worth checking out and you can sign up for the free account here.

Whatever funnel tool you do use, simply setup your checkout and funnel using these example steps I gave in this whole process. Obviously adjust the products being offered according to your niche, audience, and what you already sell as a main offer. Then watch how it increases your profits without any extra long-term hours added to your workload!
