Why you shouldn’t ONLY use Instagram

The last few weeks, I’ve been talking a lot about Instagram and Pinterest and getting your content seen across different platforms, but you may be asking yourself, “How many platforms do I really need to be on in order to be successful?” “Do I really need to be on YouTube, and Instagram, and Pinterest, and Facebook, and TikTok, and all these different platforms?”
The thing is that you really only need to be on two platforms and I’m going to share with you why only two platforms, and how that really works.

Over the past few weeks and months, I’ve been talking a lot about repurposing your content from Instagram or YouTube onto platforms like Pinterest, and really growing your search engine optimization.
Instagram content only lasts about 48 hours
The reason I really wanted to share this is that I think it’s very important that you not only focus on platforms like Instagram, but that you also focus on other platforms like Pinterest, YouTube, or growing your SEO on your blog.
The content you publish on Instagram tends to last a lot longer than what you publish on Facebook. A typical Instagram post lasts 48 hours, during which time the majority of comments are received. After six hours, when the majority of posts receive half their total comments, engagement tends to decline. However, some of the best-performing posts on Instagram take longer to gain momentum, about 12 hours.
But, at the end of the day, once those hours are over, your reach is also finished.
With the right content and follow-up, it isn’t a waste of time, but it’s certainly not worth putting 100% of your time into either.
Content on SEO platforms may last 4 months or longer
I really think that successful, healthy businesses really thrive when they’re on more than one platform. I really believe through my own experience of growing Ivory Mix and my own business that being on one platform with an algorithm and one platform that’s for SEO is the best way to go.
Pinterest, YouTube, and your blog posts have the longest lifespan of all platforms. Content on these platforms with a high level of quality can continue to generate clicks, leads, and engagement for months (or year) making these platforms a smart choice for long-term engagement.
Make things simple and choose One Social Media to build relationships (algorithm platform)
Choose One Social Media to build relationships (algorithm platform)
You don’t have to be on all platforms. Just pick one social media to post on. Take a look through your business, what you enjoy doing, where your audience hangs out, and what your audience normally uses, and pick at least one algorithm platform like social media, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok.
Choose one SEO platform to be searchable and discoverable
You could choose to be on YouTube because it’s searchable and owned by Google. If someone Googles something, they might find or stumble upon your YouTube video, or if you choose another platform like Pinterest, you’ll be able to reach people who are searching for ideas on Pinterest.
In addition to that, you could also choose your SEO platform to be your blog. A blog is great because you can grow your search engine optimization through blogging and still also be found on Google.
It’s my recommendation that all businesses should at least try to be on one of each, a social media, or algorithm platform, and a SEO platform, because with one of each, you’re able to nurture your audience on social media, and show up to share behind the scenes, have conversations, and create daily, weekly content that is fresh and new.
This strategy gives you more reach without burnout
When you need to take a vacation or when you need to work on something really important, you don’t always have to post on social media because you have the SEO platforms working for you. This is how it works in my business, and this is what I teach to my coaching clients inside of the level of Launch Accelerator and to our members who are learning all about audience growth and how to grow your audience with content in the Ivory Mix membership.
That’s really what we live by in our business. It’s the reason why I can take long vacations, and long breaks from social media altogether because I have an SEO platform that performs for me.
Over time we have added more SEO platforms and more algorithm or social media platforms, in order to scale and grow.
If you are overwhelmed with all of the options, it’s my recommendation just to pick one social media and one SEO platform, and then, once you have systems in place and you’re able to outsource, hire a team, or create better systems around those platforms, then, you can scale to additional platforms and grow with different types of content.
Now that you know more, I want to share with you my free masterclass.
