@the_ivorymix This is the very real 4 step process I use to create a year of content ideas ! #contentcreation #onlinebusinessowner #womenownedbusiness #smallbusinessmarketing #smallbusinessmarketing #contentideas #contentplanning ♬ original sound – Kayla • Ivory Mix • Templates

Step 1: Think about the top 3 related topics in your niche

The first step is to think about the 3 most relevant topics in your niche right now. This can be tricky if you’re not sure where to start, but there are two main ways to do it:

Look at what other people are posting about in your niche.

For me as someone who makes content to help Online Business Owners simplify their marketing, the top 3 topics right now might be:

  • TikTok
  • Instagram Reels
  • YouTube Shorts

For example, let’s say you’re a life coach and your top 3 topics might be:

  • Personal Development
  • Self-care
  • Stress management

This is a great place to start because it gives you a starting place for the rest of this exercise.

Tip: If you’re not sure where to start, try using a simple search to see what’s at the top results right now in your niche.

For example, try using a Google search. and typing in “topics that people are talking about right now related to ________.”

Or just hop into you’re platform of choice and put your main keyword into the search bar and look for the top results. Some resources for finding trending topics that you can use are:

  • Pinterest Trends
  • Google Trends
  • YouTube Trends
  • TikTok Trends
  • Twitter Hashtags
  • Instagram Hashtags

You don’t have to choose what’s trending though. You could just pick your top 3 favorite topics.

Step 2: Name 10 things about each topic you could share. (Example: tutorials, quick tips, or a lists)

Next, you’re going to think of 10 things about each topic that you could share a tutorial, tip, or resource list about. Just choose whatever comes top of mind for you or try to recall some common questions people ask about these topics.

At this point, it might be a good idea to go back to your search results on Google, YouTube or Pinterest and look at the content that has been done on this topic. Look for headlines or Interesting things you haven’t covered yet in your past content.

But don’t look too much at the content, you don’t want to copy. You just want to get an idea of what’s out there, what questions people are asking, and the types of headlines you’re seeing. This will likely help you generate that list of 10 things for each of your 3 topics.

To help you think about this, ask yourself…

  • What do people like me need help with when it comes to this particular topic?
  • What are my favorite tips on how they can use my product/service more effectively?
  • What questions do they ask me most often that I think would be helpful if answered in an easy-to-understand way?

At this point you should have 3 topics, with 10 ideas each, which would equal 30 total content ideas.

Step 3: List out some common myths, objections, or unknown secrets above each

Then, still thinking about your top 3 main topics, name one common myths, objections, or unknown secrets above each

If you are a life-coach, and if you have continued following along with the exercise from step 1 above, then it’s possible that when looking up the topic of “Stress Management,” (as mentioned in step 1)you would discover something called “Single Tasking.”

At this point, you want to ask yourself what is at least one myth, objection, or a secret you know about this one topic?

For example:

  • Myth #1: “I don’t have time to do all the things on my list!”
  • Objection #2: “Single Tasking for Stress doesn’t work because I always run out of time and get less done.”
  • Secret #3: “The Best thing about Single Tasking to help with stress is…

You’ll repeat this process 10 times for many of your current content ideas until you end up with 40 total ideas.

Step 4: Think of personal stories or client wins you can share about each of these ideas

The goal here is to add a human element to your content ideas. People want real stories, not just facts.

So, when you’re brainstorming these content ideas, think about ways that you can tell the story of how someone used your tips or tactics in their life (or business) and what happened as a result. Use yourself as the subject of these stories if you don’t have clients or others to talk about.

You should include this type of content in your strategy because it helps convert readers into clients. If you add at least 10 of these, that’s 50 additional ideas!

Tip: Once you’ve used all 50 content ideas in this round, start over with 3 new main topics

When you’ve used all 50 content ideas, you won’t have to start from scratch. Pick 3 topics from your past 50 content ideas and make them your NEW 3 main topics, then repeat these steps for them.

Conclusion

You just did it! You came up with 50 different topics you could write about.

The key is to pick your top 3 topics and work your way down until you’re done. In a few minutes, we were able to come up with more than 50 ideas for your social media, blogs or videos.

Now, you can put them into an excel spreadsheet or Trello board so that they’re easy to access when you need them later!

Depending on your topics and how related they are, some people choose to rotate through each topic for a diverse content plan while others like to post the content on each topic as a series.
