Simple Pinterest strategy for 2022
If there’s one platform that I couldn’t do without, it would be Pinterest!
If you’re thinking about getting started on Pinterest but don’t know where to start, or are looking for an easy basic or simple way to get started on Pinterest, this blog post and video is going to walk you through it.
I’m going to walk you through the basics of Pinterest, how to get started, and a way to simplify that beginners process so that you’re not overwhelmed with all of the features and the benefits of Pinterest, but instead, you’ll actually be taking action and making it as simple as possible!
So let’s get started

Set up your Pinterest Basics
Pinterest can be a lot of fun, but it’s also a great way to share and promote your content. Here are some basics to help you get started.
First, set up your account as a business account and then claim your website.
Then, you’ll want to create your first 5 boards for your blog or your regular content.
These boards will be the place to store all of your pins related to your blog and your content.
Do you need a blog? Nope! You can also pin Instagram posts, Esty shop listings, or YouTube Channels for instance.
Utilize keywords
There’s no doubt that Pinterest is a great resource for finding inspiration and ideas for projects. But did you know that you can also use Pinterest to help improve your search engine rankings? By using keywords in your bio, your pins and boards, you can optimize your content for search engines and get more visitors to your website.
Think of the main keywords your audience might be searching on the platform and that you want to come up for when they search them.
Then, add those keywords in your bio, on your first 5 boards, and in the the descriptions and titles of your pins.
Establish your pinning schedule
Pinterest is a content heavy platform, but a great easy place to start is by simply pinning 5 pins a week to begin with. This will help you get into the practice of pinning weekly.
Once you are easily pinning 5 pins a week on your boards (that’s 1 pin a day on 1 board), you can work up to at least 5 pins a day.
What do you pin? For successful content creators on Pinterest, their pins are made up of mostly their own fresh content or content from relevant creators in their niche.
What to pin?
As mentioned before, you can pin from many areas of your business, such as your blog, your YouTube channel or Instagram. But you don’t have to be limited to your own content and ideas.
There are many places and ways to inspire and come up with content to save for your Pinterest account.
Here’s the list of places you can create and save pins from.:
- Pin from your blog weekly
- Pin from your other accounts (IG, YouTube, Etsy, etc)
- Pin from relevant and reliable new sources in your industry
- Pay attention to Trends and create pins about them
- Revive old content into fresh Pins
Pin Designs and Types
You’re probably wondering how someone can possibly create so many graphics without running out of images or ideas?
The Good news is there are different types of graphics and images you can make on the platform.
- Pins – these are still images and simple graphics you can make on Canva
- Idea Pins – these are carousels you can make right on Pinterest or as graphics on Canva
- Video Pins – these can be animated graphics you make on Canva, or videos you make on your camera/phone
The bad news is that you have to create these yourself.
Don’t worry though! We here at Ivory Mix create templates, photos, and videos for all of them. Check out the stock photos, stock videos and Canva templates inside the Ivory Mix Membership.
I bet you’re wondering how often you should create which ones? Here is my recommendation:
- Pins – start with 1 a week and work up to 4 a week
- Idea Pins – work up to 2 ideas pins every week
- Video Pins – work up to 1 video pin every week
Group Boards Strategy
Once you’ve mastered a simple Pinterest schedule, you might be ready to expand your reach and get more followers. One great way to do this is by joining a few group boards.
As a starting point, your goal will be to join a few group boards related to specific keywords in your niche.
Once you’ve been accepted into a few group boards, go ahead and start to share your best content to those group boards.
Scheduling Options
To start on your journey of Pinterest, you may want to hold off scheduling your content while you learn the basics. But, once you’re feeling comfortable, you can start to batch and schedule your pins ahead of time.
The good new is that Pinterest has scheduling built in!

Get Familiar With Analytics
Once you’re consistent and ready to improve your Pinterest content and Pinterest strategy, you will need to familiarize yourself with Pinterest analytics.
Pinterest Analytics is a free tool that gives you detailed insights into who is following your boards, what pins are being saved the most, and more. By understanding your audience and the pins they’re most interested in, you can create content that resonates with them and drives more traffic to your website.
