When you consider Digital information products as a source of income for your blog, there are lots of diverse formats you can create or get them in. Here, we will discuss some of the regular formats, which you’ll find a lot of bloggers use to create their digital products. This is just to help you narrow down your choice and contains product formats which are faster and simpler to create than others.

There is just one statement I MUST MAKE: You do not need in-depth knowledge or special software to create digital products to sell, and it is absolutely possible to produce them while working from the comfort of your own home.

Written Content Products

An eBook is the most typical example of a written content product. Other examples are printable materials like checklists, short reports, workbooks, and more. Using a software like Google docs or Microsoft Word, these products usually contain information your audience is looking for, which is then compiled into a pdf document, which can offer easy access to your customers who can download it and then decide to print it or not.

E books generally diver deeper into your given topic, where mini eBooks, checklists, or workbooks are made for quick use – so it should be noted that although they can be used quickly, maybe they should add A LOT of value to your audience, or maybe they are intended to be printed over and over again, like a printable daily planner for instance.

Audio Products

An MP3 file format is commonly used in distributing Audio products which are usually voice recordings. MP3 files can be listened to using a mp3 player, a smartphone, or a media player on your computer after the file has been downloaded.

The voice recordings can be that of a podcast, an interview, an audiobook, a conversation, and so on. This is ideal for authors who enjoy reading their works to their audience OR who just don’t want their face on camera!

I use Anchor FM to post podcasts for this blog.

 Video Products

Creating a video product may prove to be more difficult than others since it requires you to have better technical knowledge on how to go about it. To record the video, you will either use a camera, your smart phone, or your webcam, and there will also be a need for a video editing software to work on the recordings. If you use your phone, it may be as easy as just using an APP for that.

The standard format used for saving and downloading a video product is an MP4 format, but nowadays, video sites like Vimeo and YouTube make it easy as you can just upload your videos and your customers can stream directly from the internet.

For screen capture and webcam / talking head video’s, I use screen-cast-omatic.

How to videos, talking head videos, and screen capture videos are some of the popular video products available. Your target audience will determine the format you choose when creating your video product.

Feel Free To Mix and Match

One of THE BEST ways to spread your products and sales is to have them in multiple formats! This is because not everyone will enjoy a written product while others may not enjoy an audio product. It is said that visuals are digested and understood a lot faster too. So, if you’re appealing to people who are busy, visuals or videos may be the way to go for the most part. Others may like reading the written product on their own time and then see a demo / tutorial on a video product.

If you decide to mix and match your products, you will broaden your audience and reach out to more customers.

It’s nice to see someone else using Screencast-o-matic! I found out about this resource when I was a high school teacher a few years ago. It’s a really cool, easy-to-use tool. Thanks for all your digital product launch tips. I’ve read through all your posts and now I need to play around with what may work best for future projects. Thanks!
